The Bangkok mangroves are a mangrove system located in Bangkok Bay, Thailand. These coastal ecosystems are of great importance in terms of biodiversity and environmental protection, as well as for the local population. Mangroves are one of the 14 terrestrial biomes defined by WWF.

Mangroves are dense coastal forests made up of trees and shrubs that grow in salty, muddy water. Bangkok’s mangroves are home to many species of plants and animals, including crabs, fish, birds and mammals, which depend on these ecosystems for their habitat and food.

Bangkok’s mangroves cover an area of almost 100,000 hectares, stretching along the city’s east and west coasts. They play a crucial role in protecting land from erosion and storms, trapping sediment and stabilizing soil. The roots of mangrove trees also trap sediment and create habitats for marine species.
