The Dragon Temple, also known as Wat Samphran, is one of Thailand’s most interesting and unique tourist sites. Located in the province of Nakhon Pathom, about 40 kilometers from Bangkok, the temple is easily accessible by car.
History and significance of the Temple of the Dragon
The Dragon Temple was built in 1985, after eight years of construction. It is famous for its 17-storey, 80-metre-high tower, decorated with a dragon sculpture in relief. The tower symbolizes the strength and wisdom of the dragon, an important mythical creature in Asian culture. The temple was designed to honor Buddhist wisdom and Thai culture. In addition to the dragon tower, the temple features several Thai-style buildings, a large golden stupa, Buddha statues and lush gardens. The temple is also famous for its large snake coiled around the tower.
